It’s fair to say that the e-bike is currently one of the hottest accessories. E-bikes allow much more independence when exploring local areas or even just popping to the shops, without the need to be super fit. They take all the strain so you can enjoy navigating those undulating country lanes on your own two wheels at the pace you want to travel at.
However, due to the weight of the battery system, they can be heavy, which can cause problems with payload and bike rack loading limits, as well as the need to manhandle them into their storage location. Of course, lighter e-bikes are available, but price tags can be eyewateringly high, which is where Tenways comes in. It makes a range of e-bikes, and the two we are giving away here sit in the company’s Lightweight Series and both are sensibly priced.
The CGO600 Pro mountain bike style is 18kg, including the weight of the battery and accessories. Removing the battery brings the weight down to just over 15kg. The step-through CGO800S is 23kg and, by removing the battery and accessories, this comes down to around 19kg.
That means both these e-bikes will be suitable for most bike racks. If you have a bike rack, check the maximum weight limit – for those with a rear rack on pre-fitted mounting points, this is usually 50kg but it is recommended you still check.
Both e-bikes have single-speed drivetrains with Gates Carbon Belt Drive – meaning there is no risk of getting oil on clothes from chains and no mucky chain repairs. Standard batteries are 360Wh and 374Wh (for the CGO600 Pro and CGO800S respectively), which give a range of about 62 miles on a single charge. This is driven through a hub motor and torque sensor to deliver the right amount of assistance to boost your pedalling.
There is also an app to monitor your mileage and track your rider stats, and it can also be used to send navigation instructions to the CGO800S integrated LCD screen.
The CGO600 Pro has a neat integrated front light and a detachable rear light, as well as reflectors. It comes in four colours and four sizes: S for riders from 4ft 11in to 5ft 7in, M for riders from 5ft 7in to 5ft 11in, L is up to 6ft 5in and XL is for riders over 6ft 5in.
The CGO800S, which has front fork suspension for extra comfort, and also available in four colours, is one-size for riders between 5ft 1in and 6ft 3in.
