Purchases for winter motorhome preparation

fdebcae8-3ef8-4b47-bd62-6562fbe34ff2

Unlike our leading manufacturers (Auto-Sleepers, Auto-Trail and Swift have led the way here), you probably don’t need to stick your vehicles in a “climate chamber” to work out exactly where the cold spots are when it comes to winter. You just have to sit there.

But, what if you’re not looking to use your vehicle much, if at all, over the winter period? What extra protection can you give your vehicle as the cold sets in?

Whether you’re using your motorhome or not, there are plenty of things you can do to keep winter as cosy as possible... and prevent any nightmare moments when you do take your ’van out of storage ready for the season ahead.

Talking of which, if you haven’t done so already, why not book your vehicle in for its next annual servicing – for both the base vehicle and the habitation side?

Meanwhile, here are some other products to give you a bit of protection and/or peace of mind over the next few months.

Roll on, springtime!

Brookstone Winter Travel Kit

In case you’re considering any kind of journey this winter, a kit like this has a lot of angles covered.
It’s designed for cars, but it will also help with all kinds of smaller emergencies in your motorhome, thanks to the products you get here – extra wide blade scraper, large scoop snow shovel, high-visibility vest, rescue tracks and a long reach snow brush with scraper head. The latter is a reminder that it’s illegal to travel on UK roads with significant amounts of snow on the roof of your vehicle – the thinking here is, if a collection of snow were to come off at any speed it could cause damage to other vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

• Typical price: £25.99 • Key points Full kit for small emergencies

OLPro Winter Long

If you haven’t used an overwintering product like this before, do seriously consider it – especially if you’re putting your motorhome into storage and don’t intend using it at all over the winter months.
It’s a concentrated formula that you apply to all of the bodywork using a normal sponge, giving a protective layer that really will last all through to next spring.
Dilute it to any concentration you wish, although OLPro says half-a-litre of concentrate with added water should be sufficient for protection from algae, bird droppings, tree sap, traffic film and more.

• Typical price: £9.99 • Key points: Biodegradable concentrated fluid, environmentally friendly, one-litre pack, sufficient for two years’ use
• Contact: www.olproshop.com
