Holiday Park Review: Frensham Country Park

Val Chapman explores a newly-established leisure lodge park in a gorgeous location close to an inland sandy beach.

A sandy beach in the middle of landlocked Surrey? Can this be true? It is – and there’s more, much more.

Frensham is an extraordinary place. An oasis of calm, amid the Surrey Hills, with a sandy lake beach, yet the spectacular Georgian market town of Farnham is only five and a half miles away.

Frensham Country Park is surrounded by woodland, pretty ponds and open fields. The sandy beach is on the shores of Frensham Great Pond, the larger of two ponds on Frensham Common, which covers about 1,000 acres of heathland and woodland and is owned by the National Trust.

The ponds were constructed in the Middle Ages to provide fish for the Bishop of Winchester’s estate. The heathland is a haven for rare wildlife including sand lizards, Dartford warblers, nightjars and some rare plants including the spectacular sundew, a carnivorous plant that traps insects with sticky pads.

Frensham Country Park is one of three holiday home parks owned by the Countrywide Park Homes group. The others are in Derbyshire (Haytop Park, near Matlock) and Norfolk (Puddledock Farm, in Thetford Forest).

About the holiday homes

Frensham Country Park is an exclusive, new development of luxurious second homes. The park is secluded, down a private drive. The homes, set in beautifully landscaped grounds, are of individual design and high quality construction, built for the discerning-buyer. They’re cedar-clad, each with generous gardens, an integrated barbecue area and parking space.

The homes have white panelled vaulted ceilings. Exposed feature. Beams add character and create the feel of a stylish loft apartment. Natural oak flooring is in all the living areas.

Spa-like bathrooms and en suites are exquisitely designed with fine attention to detail. Imaginative interior design is a hallmark of these homes.

About the region

Frensham Country Park is within the ancient village of Churt, on the A287 between Farnham and Haslemere, in the south west corner of Surrey, close to the borders with Hampshire and West Sussex.

Farnham is a delightful town of listed buildings, of narrow quaint streets and pleasant courtyards with various cafés, shops, restaurants and art galleries. All you need is here, including a Waitrose, a Sainsbury’s and regular markets.
