WITH the ever increasing costs of motoring, and the smaller driveways of new houses, we thought we’d check out a tourer that’s a possible solution for those who feel they are being squeezed out of enjoying their hobby.

For the touring couple who have had to downsize in every way but still want to keep their freedom holidays then the Trigano Silver 310 narrow-bodied two-berth pop-top may just be the answer.

The exterior of the Silver is stylish and modern and the exterior build is remarkably good; it’s solid with a firmly screwed on trim. It is sure to attract younger folk with its trendy graphics and moulded front and rear lower panels, plus wheel spats – perfect for those who want to get off the beaten track but don’t want a tent or a folding camper.

The roof is a cinch to operate; within a minute you have full headroom and the Silver is ready for action.

The Silver feels miniature inside on first entry, but once you’re in and settled you soon realise that it’s a Tardis-like tourer. It has a front dinette, small side cupboard, wardrobe with adjoining washroom and rear end kitchen.

The front dinette is obviously narrow, but the settees are amazingly long at 1.90m.

The table drops to make a bed
The seat base itself is a little on the small side, but still felt comfortable to us. Drop the table in between the two seats, add two wood fillers and you have a sizeable bed. Eight deep roof lockers provide plenty of storage capacity.

The upholstery is comfortable and the pattern modern, but without alienating those caravanners that might prefer a more traditional interior. We were surprised to note that the seat top lockers were plywood – no slats. Although storage isn’t bad here, the side battery box cuts into the space as does to the optional hot water tank.

Flyscreens, blinds and nets are standard, but the curtains are for show only. There’s one light situated over the dinette; we would like to see corner spots added as we reckon night-time reading could be hard without the aid of extra lighting.

A welcome feature in the Silver is the inclusion of three mains sockets and there’s a TV aerial point for connection to an external source. The side cupboard by the entrance door has some more extra storage while also providing a small amount of worktop.

Our Silver 310 had the optional water heater fitted and also the gas only flued Trumatic room heater. The sacrifice is that the cupboard below as this is where the optional heater will be stowed; meanwhile the wardrobe has just enough storage for those travelling light.

The rear end kitchen does well to pack in plenty of appliances and storage considering the Silver’s width; there’s a four-burner hob with grill, small fridge/freezer, small sink with cupboard storage below and roof lockers above.

The washroom's loo and window

The kitchen has two down lighters which will provide good night-time lighting.
Although small, the corner washroom feels quite luxurious. It’s got a smart washbasin with storage below and a super double-aspect mirror.

There’s a cassette loo fitted and the washroom gets its own window. The design makes the most of the limited space available in this compact pop-top.

Our verdict:

This Trigano Silver isn’t a cheap tourer by any means, but it’s got so much going for it.

The quality both inside and out is very good. We liked the interior decor and the fact that this tourer can be towed by just about anything. It’ll fit in your garage or at the side of the house.

If you take into account the absence of extra storage costs and the towcar fuel saving that this lightweight tourer will allow then the Silver’s price tag begins to make a lot of sense.
