WITH contemporary, stylish graphics and five-spoke alloy wheels coupled with sleek, sweeping lines, the Conqueror certainly does look the business.
New to the Conqueror this year is the exterior two-part door with moulded liner, window and blind.
Moving to the interior and looks, again, are contemporary, light and modern.
The overall impression you get when you first walk into this luxury two-berth is its airy and relatively spacious feel, with a vital ingredient to this being the beige upholstery and carpeting mixed with the light wood panels and surfaces.
The layout comprises an L-shaped lounge with plenty of overhead storage, a adequately-sized kitchen featuring mammoth 180-litre fridge/freezer underneath an 800W microwave with the three gas/one electric ring hob, grill and oven opposite.
Moving towards the back of the caravan, you come to a fixed double bed on the left with plenty of overhead storage with a walkway leading to the end bathroom.
Up front in the lounge, the low-back settees are comfy enough with the standard three-split window and roof light providing enough light into the area.
Next to the settees is a shallow drawer/TV point with aerial and two 24V sockets. One small point to make: designers have seen fit to compromise the depth of the TV ‘station’...the thinking behind it, presumably, is that flatscreens are all the rage.
Happily, there is a cocktail cabinet above the TV port should you need a stiff drink when your bulky portable keeps falling to the floor.
Certainly what takes centre-stage in the 630 is its kitchen - although not for all the right reasons.
What’s immediately noticeable as you move to the kitchen area is the mammoth-sized fridge to your right.
So a caravan aimed at couples/small families that like to cook, right? Wrong. The food preparation area is, at best, either an after-thought or a token gesture.
Moving from the kitchen to the separate bedroom sees a fixed double bed on the left. The cut-away bed gives a little more walkthrough space to the end bathroom.
The bedroom has good storage space under the bed (gas-assisted struts/aluminium bed frame) as well as access (again from under the bed) to an external storage point coupled with plenty of overhead storage space.
Our verdict:
Sadly, the Conqueror 630 SAL lets itself down with its lack of identity. Is it aimed at couples/families who like to cook?
If yes, why didn’t designers take into account the lack of food preparation area, even though there’s a whopping great fridge coupled with a microwave, oven, hob and grill?
If it is, in reality, a luxury two-berth, why compromise on that with a cut-away bed?
