Full review
Lunar's five-berth addition to the Lexon range follows the new trend for double, rather than triple, bunks – but that’s where the likeness to any other model ends.
The 550 has a four-seater dining area in the centre of the caravan, on the offside opposite the kitchen – and that’s the feature that makes it really special. For here you have so many options. It’s a place for kids to eat on their own while parents eat in the front end. It’s a kids’ play zone – and there’s a power point near floor level under the table to ensure all the electronic gadgetry they need has a power supply. There’s a TV aerial, 12volt socket and satellite connector here, too.
The table (which clips to a rail on the wall) forms the base of the bed. A curtain tracks around the bed area – and then disappears off into its own cabinet just to the rear of the bed – very refined and neat!
Often in caravans with lots of beds in five-and-a-half metre bodies, the kitchen suffers in storage or surface space – or both. Not so in the Lexon 550. Between the fridge and oven is a good-sized cabinet with two deep shelf areas and, above it, a cutlery drawer that’s large enough for both place settings and cutlery. Top space is generous. To the left and in front of the large circular sink is ample surface – and the sink is covered by more surface, in the form of a chopping board that matches the pale cream granite look of the worktop.
The 550 has two full-height wardrobes. One sits between the central dining area and the lounge, with the heater below it. The other is at the rear, between the bunks and the wardrobe, and contains four drawers – utterly brilliant!
