Exterior

The colours and shapes of Lunar Deltas are traditionally quite understated, but there’s nothing subtle about the Delta FB, the star performer of the 2012 range. Crucially it has AL-KO’s ATC stability control; there’s a little lime-green light on the drawbar casing which tells you there is a gentle braking system hidden away.

It’s reassuring to know that it’s looking after you in the event of the first signs of snaking or sway. A closer inspection of the exterior reveals a small device that will be much appreciated by dog owners – it’s a connection point for an exterior shower. When Patch comes home from a walk coated in mud, you can wash him before he inflicts the mud on the inside of your beautiful caravan. It’s great for boots too.

Interior

There’s one big kitchen with lots of cabinets and there are two big fixed bunks. There’s Alde central heating and the tower fridgefreezer is enormous. We love the two fixed bunks. They are adult-sized (1.84m long and 77cm wide), but we think thicker mattresses would have been a good idea to make them truly suitable for adults. These bunks sit on the offside, just forward of a shower and dressing room that spans the full width of the caravan.

The bunk area has a cosy, self-contained feel. That’s due to a well-designed room divider which performs a lot of functions within its slim frame. The table for the lounge is housed here. A thin cabinet above it opens to reveal two curtains. One runs across the bunk area and the other pulls forward across the dining area, making it private when you turn it into a small bed at night.

This dining area is one of the FB’s defining features because it’s wide enough for four people; even so, there’s enough corridor space for people to move freely between here and the kitchen. With a working area that’s 64 square-cm, plus a sink cover that’s made of the same substance as the worktop, this caravan is one of the best on the market for quantity of kitchen space. It’s up among the best in terms of kitchen storage, too, with three large cupboards below and three deep cabinets above.

As night falls, there’s more than practicality to woo you here. This kitchen is brilliantly illuminated by two LED strips, and each of the 72 pips of light is much larger than the LEDs we’ve seen in other caravans. A row of the same type of lights runs at the top, inside two cabinets that have frosted white plastic doors – so the light from the interior shines through.

Illumination is generous elsewhere, too. At the front corners, two lights shaped like vases sit among the lockers, and that’s in addition to a multitude of spotlights, of course. A light comes on when you open the wardrobe doors, and at carpet level the word “Lunar” lights up in blue in the kitchen area. There is nothing subtle about the FB but it works brilliantly.
