COULD you live with having to tell everyone that you tow an Eriba Touring Troll? The name will probably make your friends look askance, but then there’s always the option of saying you have a GT in the garage.

That’s because – thanks to the Eriba’s neat pop-up roof, most garages are able to accommodate it.

Such a configuration means that not only can you keep it off the drive, but the roadholding is rather better than average – and what’s more, it’s very simple to raise and stow the roof. There are other ramifications to having a pop-up roof too, not least of all the interior layout. The lockers are all much lower than usual, with their capacity also being less than you’ll be used to.

While the living area is plenty big enough for three people to sit comfortably, the kitchen area isn’t quite so generous. There isn’t enough worktop space and there’s no draining board at all. But at least the washroom is well-equipped, with an electrically flushing Thetford cassette swivel toilet, lots of light and plenty of storage space. But the lack of a boiler won’t have you dashing for the shower in the morning! The fixed double bed provides plenty of space beneath and there’s lots of comfort on offer for a third person to sleep on the transverse sofa at the front of the caravan. While the Eriba is the wild card of the bunch here, it’s not a half-baked idea that relegates it to joker status.
