The Elddis Breeze range is a special edition made by the Explorer Group to the specification of Raymond James Caravans of Atherstone in Warwickshire. It's based on the lightweight Xplore range, with additional equipment worth £1927. Yet these caravans cost the same as the standard Xplores.

Full review

The Breeze range is made by the Explorer Group, based on the lightweight Xplore. The price of the standard Xpkore 402, which we review here as an example of the range, is £13,299, plus delivery (£495), making the total price £13,794. The Breeze version is also £13,794; it's a special promotion for the NEC show (17 - 22 February).

The list of extras includes items in the Xplore SE pack, which adds £379 to the price (AL-KO AKS stabiliser, alloy wheels, spare wheel, CD player with MP3 connectivity and speakers, and wheel lock receptor).

Without in any way implying criticism of the Xplore range, which we love, the Breeze has a much more luxurious character. Chief among the items which transform the look are the fabrics and the change from a simple carpet runner to complete fitted carpets. The fabric scheme has a name that’s as attractive as the look: “pinot mulberry”. It’s cool greys and pastel mauves and creams, with pale nutmeg-shade curtains.

Buyers thinking of holidaying abroad will appreciate one of the Breeze upgrades in particular; it’s the inclusion of a mains hotplate, alongside the three burners, which each have separate pan trivets, making cleaning the hob exceptionally easy.

More practicality arrives on the extras list in the form of an automatic gas changeover system and heavy-duty corner steadies, with a bigger load-spread area, ideal for softer ground.

The 402 is one of six layouts in the Breeze range and the only one made specifically for two people.

Four-and-more-berth layouts go upwards in size from the extra-compact and incredibly cleverly designed four-berth 304 (just 1069kg MTPLM!) to the six-berth 526 (1317kg). There’s a Breeze with twin beds, one with a fixed bed, and a brilliant family layout with lounges at each end; that’s the 434, with an MTPLM of just 1193kg.

Our verdict

Most dealer special caravans cost more than the caravans on which they're based. But here's one that costs the same. To get almost £2000-worth of additional equipment, and upgraded upholstery to create an exclusive look, for the same price as the standard Xplore, is impressive value. We love these special edition Breeze caravans!
