The 840 is one of three eight-foot-wide models in the Elddis Avanté range. It’s capable of sleeping six, although the layout offers so much flexibility that this caravan’s appeal is also to buyers looking for a caravan for four, or even just two.
This is how it works. There’s a double bed cosily located in the nearside rear corner. A second double bed can be made from the wide, U-shaped dining area in the centre of the caravan, opposite the kitchen. The lounge can, of course, be transformed into yet a third double bed — and is long enough to be used as single beds. The flexibility attributes of this layout are obvious.
As a caravan for four, there’s a fixed double bed (1.88m long and 1.3m wide) for mum and dad and front settee singles (1.88m long) for two offspring. The large central dining area can stay in permanent day mode — no need to make beds before breakfast or after dinner. Or, of course, you can make the dining area into a bed and leave the lounge in day mode.
When six are on board, the central dining area comes into play. It makes into a double bed; each end of the U-shape extends, to create a bed that’s 1.9m long and 1.29m wide. As a caravan for two, this layout provides amazing luxury, with both a permanent lounge and dining area.
And what of the showering facilities? That’s in the offside corner, alongside the bed — and it’s every bit as large as one you’d expect to find across the width of a caravan at the rear. This layout has been made possible by the extra width of the 840 — it’s 19cm wider than the four standard-width caravans in the Avanté range.
Equipment includes Al-Ko’s ATC stability enhancement system, a hitch-head stabiliser, a dual-fuel hob (with a hotplate plus three gas burners), oven and microwave. Heating comes from the new Whale CompleteHeat 4.3kW ducted system. The water heater is the Whale Expanse dual-fuel eight-litre unit.
The Elddis Avanté 840 is a caravan with wide appeal — equally suitable for families of six or four, and also couples. The wide dining area is a place where the whole family can gather to eat, or children can eat here while parents have their own dining space in the lounge. Space, everywhere, is the keynote of this caravan’s appeal, as well as its versatility.
