Full review

An Alde-heated caravan which comes complete with Alde Load Monitor, the Compass Capiro 550 has a bedroom completely separate from the rest of the caravan.

Capiro sits in the middle of the three Compass ranges. All models are comparatively light yet their equipment level includes the luxury of the silent, cocooning warmth of Alde heating, making them ideal choices for year-round caravanning.

Alde Load Monitor

They also have the Alde Load Monitor, which switches off the heating while you are using a high-powered appliance including the microwave – and then switches it back on again automatically. This prevents you from tripping out the power supply to your pitch.

They also have AL-KO's ATC stability control system. All four models have MTPLM figures of less than 1500kg.

A separate bedroom

The 550 has the luxury of a bedroom that's completely separate from the rest of the caravan.

A sliding door leads to the centrally-located en-suite shower and separate toilet-washbasin room. The door of this compartment opens across the corridor, to close off the washing facilities from the kitchen.

It's a layout that's ideal for couples but, of course, it's a four-berth; you can create a double bed in the lounge.

Equipment includes a gas barbecue point, a light for the gas bottle compartment and an exterior locker with a mains socket.

'Stargazer' roof light

One of the interior keynotes of the Capiro models is the 'Stargazer' roof light which stretches along the length of the lounge and lets in a huge amount of daylight.

Pleated blinds and Aquaclean upholstery designed to wipe clean with just water if you spill anything onto it are among Capiro refinements, together with concealed lighting under the edges of the kitchen lockers, a heated towel rail and back-lighting for the washroom mirror.

Soft blue and fawns characterise 2019 Capiro fabrics, with plaid-inspired cushions.

Verdict

If you're looking for the luxury of Alde heating and a separate bedroom, in a caravan that has an MTPLM figure of less than 1500kg, the Compass Capiro 550 is spot on.

We love the huge 'Stargazer' roof light and the lighting design throughout the 550. We also praise the inclusion of Alde's Load Monitor system.
