The five-berth in the new Acadia range, with bunks, a side dining area — and Alde heating

Coachman’s new-for-2020 Acadia range takes over from both the Vision and Pastiche ranges, and has Alde heating. Coachman is now the only British manufacturer to have all its ranges heated by the Alde system.

There are 10 layouts and an eleventh is due to be launched in October; that model will be eight feet wide.

The 580 is one of two family layouts in the standard-width Acadia range. This five-berth model has bunks in the nearside rear corner. Beside them, in the offside corner, is the shower room, with a circular separate shower and an Alde heated towel rail on the forward wall.

The wardrobe is forward of the shower, with two drawers beneath. The central offside dining area transforms into a single bed. The lounge is long enough to be used as single beds or, of course, it can be made into a double bed.

Kitchen

The kitchen has ample work surface plus a hinged extension. Cooking equipment is a hot plate plus three burners, oven, grill and microwave. Kitchen storage is a central cabinet between the oven and fridge with a drawer above it; a second drawer is above the fridge.

Storage

Seven top lockers line the lounge and dining area. The free-standing table is stored in its own cabinet on the fore end of the bunk pod.

Alongside the door is a mirror set into a recess with a shelf; this is the ideal place for keys and phones as you step inside.

Fabrics

Acadia fabrics are shades of pale fawn and cream with the injection of a blue tinge in the tartan inspired fabric for two of the four cushions. Curtains have a faint blue sheen pattern. Button detail in the upholstery is a lovely feature; they are covered in a dark brown fabric which matches the insets on the edges of the curved armrests.

The pale cream seating has button detail in brown suede-effect, matching the seat edge piping and inserts on the forward edges of the four armrests. The effect is tastefully calming, yet with enough pattern interest to be memorable.

Equipment

Acadia models have a Phantom Vanguard remote-controlled alarm system with PIR and tilt sensors; the alarm fob also controls the awning light. Equipment also includes an external mains socket with a vertical-slide lid and a Pioneer sound system that connects to smartphones.

Verdict

Amalgamating the Vision and Pastiche range, both of which have a strong following, was a bold move by Coachman — as is the total switch to Alde heating.

Coachman has never set out to compete in the ‘entry level’ arena and now, the ‘Acadia’, as this company’s lowest-priced range, puts Coachman even more emphatically into the semi-luxury and total-luxury bracket.

The 580 is a proven layout, nicely equipped and with a definite classy look. We’re confident it will find its own niche in what is becoming an increasingly discerning marketplace.
