Full review
UNLESS you’ve already undertaken a fair bit of research into buying your first caravan, the chances are that you’ve never heard of Caravelair.
Yet this French company is one of the most prolific caravan builders in Europe, with its products offering a nice mix of continental flair and British homeliness.
The Ambiance range is new for 2007, and consists of just two variants; the 450 and the 400 that we’ve chosen here. Both are four-berth caravans, but there are three significant differences between them; the 450 is longer, has a different layout and also has a more comprehensive kitchen with a grill and oven. If you really need an oven, you may be better off choosing the 450 - but it’s costlier than the 400, at £10,590.
Stick with the 400 and you’ll have a fixed bed at the front with the kitchen and washroom at the back, and a dinette in between. It’s a layout that works well, but be warned that if you’ve so far been looking at British-built caravans, you’ll be disappointed with what the Caravelair has to offer in terms of facilities. The obvious solution is to do what the Europeans do; buy the 400 and stick to campsites with decent facilities.
