This campsite is blooming marvellous
The Sites in Bloom awards were introduced in 2003 by life member Alan Payne, to recognise the creative and horticultural skills of Caravan Club site wardens and volunteers, and to showcase their success in making sites colourful and welcoming.
The results of the 2013 judging were announced at awards ceremony in the Houses of Parliament on 18 November.
Club chairman Grenville Chamberlain presented site wardens Mike and Lyn Stirling with the Alan Payne Trophy. The couple single-handedly look after one of the club’s most popular sites, and produced “the most stunning displays of plants and flowers to greet visitors, using tastefully themed bursts of colours throughout the site”, he said.
Runners up were Ayr Craigie Gardens site in Scotland, where judges were taken by the bright summer colours interspersed with deep purples, and Wyatts Covert site near Denham, Buckinghamshire, which had brightly coloured hanging baskets adorning the reception area.
