SWIFT Group has released the first pictures of its new wide-bodied version of the Challenger and announced that the layout will also be available on the Ace, Abbey and Sterling Eccles ranges.

The new Challenger 540 was the first Swift Group model to adopt the 7ft 6in maximum width for UK caravans and is to be joined by three more models - the Ace Award Firestar, Sterling Eccles Jewel and the Abbey GTS 418 and all three will be available for early summer delivery. Prices are £14,850 for the Sterling Eccles Jewel and Abbey GTS 418 and £13,850 for the Ace Award Firestar.

The new platform is two inches broader in the beam than the other eight models in the range. It has the same layout as the popular Challenger 500, with a fixed double bed with adjacent washroom at the rear, a central kitchen and front lounge.

It offers the same fixed-bed accommodation as the Challenger 500 but the four-berth layout is more open-plan, giving a greater feeling of space.

Swift Group Sales and Marketing Director Richard White said: "Challenger buyers appreciate the sophisticated styling inside and out, the top specification level and the high security provision. Early season sales have been amazing and production is now sold out into the spring."

Swift Group previously declined to comment on whether the new 7ft 6in bodyshell would appear in other ranges, but Which Caravan accurately predicted the imminent arrival of more wide bodied models - possibly before the traditional August model year change - in its February issue.

All four new 540 models will be launched at the National Boat, Caravan & Outdoor Show at the NEC in Birmingham from 18-26 February 2006.
