Summer of 'holidaying at home' predicted

A STRONG euro could encourage an increasing number of British people to holiday at home this year, a caravan expert has predicted.

David Middleton, touring sales director at caravan sales company Salop Leisure, made the comment as a record number of visitors were attracted to the company’s spring touring caravan show.

The company hosted the show over nine days and bosses say between 1,500 and 2,000 people attended each of the two weekend days.

Held at its Shrewsbury headquarters, the record attendance suggests a healthy caravan market for the months ahead.

Mr Middleton said: “With the Euro being so strong against Sterling, we think a lot more people will opt to holiday in the UK this year in their caravans and motorhomes. The common message we are getting from customers is that families are looking for the freedom of owning either a touring caravan, a motorhome or a holiday home to go on holiday when and where they want in the UK.”
