OPINION: Why choose a caravan?
Here I am, aged small, celebrating some incredible spade-related achievement outside our family tourer, long before my days at Caravan magazine. That’s my sister, Katie, next to me.
We were just two of the kids for whom caravanning helped gain vital experience in so many walks of life. Through family holidays, I learned about nature and wildlife; I gained a sense of direction and discovered places all over the UK. I kept active, den building and playing or exploring, and redressed that balance by trying produce from oh-so-many ice cream parlours until I found my favourite (it’s in Sheringham).
It’s not just youngsters that get the benefit, either. We’re never too old to learn; even if you’re brain is full to bursting, there’s nothing more relaxing than sitting on site, sunbathing, surrounded by like-minded holidaymakers. Or, if you’d prefer then just get away from it (and them) all, caravanning off-grid in your own personal space of holiday freedom. There’s something for everyone around the UK and beyond.
Now, years later and slightly more bearded, I’ve embraced the outdoors and all things touring once again and haven’t looked back since rejoining the world of caravanning.
I’m part of an industry that’s as much fun and exciting as ‘work’ can get – it’s all about holidays! However, the task of choosing and buying a tourer that you’ll treasure for years to come can be a daunting one.
