Halfords advise caravan owners to check leisure batteries
Irregular car usage in the past year has led to a rise in flat batteries and motoring services company, and Halford predicts a similar issue may occur with leisure batteries as many caravanners, campervanners and motorhomers head out for the first time in months this summer.
Leisure battery units provide a reliable and regulated source of 12V power for the lights, water pump and refrigerator while static or on the move and those new to leisure vehicles are urged to check their batteries before they travel.
“It's true that leisure batteries tend to have a longer lifespan than what we are used to with cars, but they do go flat which is why we’re urging those who will have to get theirs replaced to look into it before their vacations to avoid any stress during their well-earned breaks.
"Batteries use up a little power everyday even as caravans stay idle, which is why we recommend regularly recharging it even if a vacation is weeks or months away. We also advise all caravan owners to make sure not to discharge their leisure batteries too much while on their trips to avoid damage – a good rule of thumb is to ensure that is does not fall below 50% capacity,” says Scott Douglas, Halfords' leisure battery expert.
