Open: March 1-November 15

Picture this: Walls of vivid sea-blue teamed with sunshine-bright yellow. Decorative imagery of huge ceramic urns that are symbols of a craft traditional in Mediterranean countries.

Outside: rocky islands of palm-type fronded plants rise out of a patio.

You know you're in southern Spain or the south of France. If only in style. You get a warm, holiday feel of a Mediterranean lifestyle to which most of us aspire.

In fact this Mediterranean-image creation is in England. It's in a part of England well associated with holidays but not first on the list in the rural-pursuits frame of Out&About.

Windy Harbour Holiday Park is near to the village of Singleton, 20-or-so minutes from Blackpool. But in character this park is a world away from the cheapy-razamataz image of Blackpool. (Apologies if Blackpool's your thing!) Windy Harbour is a quality park with some great facilities.

The fabulous Med-style bar opened for the start of the 2005 season; it's the entrance feature of a giant and comprehensive entertainment suite, sparkling new and very inviting.

Windy Harbour is in the peaceful agricultural region the Fylde coast, yet inside 20 minutes you can drive to the coast (there are other facets of this coast, namely tranquil fish-village Lytham, or sedate St Annes, or purposeful Cleveleys). Well within an hour, you can be in the city of Lancaster. Keep going north and you'll soon come to the Lake District...

There are, thus, many reasons to come here.

And one of them is the park itself.

Its facility list reads like a whole resort, rather than a park:
Supermarket selling, also, a selection of caravan accessories, hair salon, café, indoor swimming pool...

There's a Teen Club with, incredibly, free use of two Playstation2s and an X-Box, a cabaret lounge, a bar with river view and decked area reaching out from it to within 10 metres of the river bank...

Then there's the outdoor stuff: coarse-fishing ponds, a total of 76 acres to roam around

Birds to watch: Swans, curlews, Canada and barnacle geese, red shanks, redwing and lapwings are frequent visitors.

Pitches are large and hardstanding. Thirty five are in a specially-designated dog-owners' area, 58 have hook-ups, a further 23 are fully-serviced pitches. Facilties include showers, 'family bathroom' (yes, it's large enough for all the kids to line up and tub in turn, if you wish!) and launderette.
