Caravan Awards: Best Single Axle Caravan for Families 2019
Choosing a new single axle family caravan can feel overwhelming. But, the 2019 winner and highly commended models here should make it easier to select the perfect model for your family.
Elddis Avanté / Compass Casita 586
Bunks, side dining area, offside washroom
This new six-berth tourer has bunks and significant storage space.
The twin models in the Elddis Avanté and Compass Casita ranges from the same manufacturer have the same layout, the same weight and are the same price. The difference is the in décor.
Regarding judging, they're pretty much inseparable. Which fabric and woodwork scheme you prefer is down to personal taste – and both Avanté and Casita schemes have strong appeal.
The 586 layout is a cracking family caravan, well designed regarding layout practicalities, with generous storage, and flexible dining and lounging arrangements.
Between the bunks and the washroom sits one of the best-designed wardrobes in any caravan. It has 86cm of hanging width. Half of jacket-length, the rest is full length. Under the half-length hanging space are three shelves; these, together with the base of the full-depth hanging space, will gobble up everyone's footwear nicely.

Sprite Major 6 TD
Bunks and dining area in rear 'room'; offside central washroom
Two dining areas. Two TV areas.
TD stands for 'twin dining areas'- and that's the key to the efficiency of this model in providing separate areas for each generation. It's a major reason why this model is high up among caravanning's best-selling family models.
Fresh styling, practical, dark seating fabric and good kitchen space all contribute to making this model a brilliant six-berth option.

A rear room containing bunks plus two more to make from the dining area
Superb two-area accommodation for six in a lightweight caravan.
This year's Venus range has furnishings and finishes that are distinctive. Long settees at the front enable all occupants to eat together, or you can use both dining areas. Versatility is a strong attribute in a family caravan.
The kitchen surface is large, curving slightly outwards over the cabinet containing a cutlery drawer on the fore end. It's a practical design.
Storage space is well up to the needs of six, with a large wardrobe which has two drawers and a cupboard beneath it, five top lockers and ample space under the seating.
