Caravan Awards: Best Lightweight Caravan for Couples 2019

b19910e5-6712-4732-9a4c-31a212a6e4d7

With some great caravans on the market in this category for 2019, choosing a winner was always going to be tough. But, when one is 'simply brilliant', it was a clear choice for which caravan won.

Winner

Swift Basecamp

What's special?

Swift Basecamp

A compact, ultra-lightweight tourer with head-turning graphics and bags of practicality; built for adventures!

Basecamp's bright orange graphics and formidable appearance make sure you get noticed if you own one.

It's explicitly designed to be your base for activities, with a rear door so that you can load bikes inside. The settees fold upwards to create space, and there are securing brackets for your bikes.

Basecamp comes with Swift's Command control system which enables you to turn on the lights and heating for a welcoming return to your caravan after your day's adventures.

The kitchen has all you need – a three-burner hob, fridge, oven and grill. The Basecamp is quite simply brilliant.

Bailey Phoenix 420

Layout
Rear shower room, offside kitchen

What's special?

Bailey's smallest, lightest caravan, the 420 has an MTPLM of just 1139kg.

The washroom spans the rear of the caravan and is more spacious than the 420's short length would suggest. Equipment includes a full oven and grill, four-burner hob and a microwave.

Highly Commended

Bailey Phoenix 440

Layout
Side double bed, rear shower room

What's special?

The Bailey Phoenix 440 is one of the smallest, lightest fixed-bed caravans you can buy.

It does have the four-berth capability (the lounge converts into a double bed), but by far its main appeal is to couples looking for something light and compact and with the luxury of no bed-making and a full-width rear washroom.

Storage space is impressive for a caravan with a body length of just 5.3m; there's a gigantic space under the bed of course, and the wedge-shaped wardrobe is capacious.

Price £17,999 +£565 delivery
MTPLM 1316kg
Overall length 6.88m
Width 2.21m
