Caravan Awards: Best Lightweight Caravan for Couples 2017
The choice for couples looking for their ideal lightweight caravan is wide.
Best Family Lightweight Caravan
Firstly, the Best Lightweight Caravan for Couples winner is the XPLORE 554.
As the popularity of the transverse island bed layout continues to accelerate, the Explorer Group introduces it, for 2017, into its brilliant lightweight, budget – and stylish – Xplore range.
This model’s MTPLM is only 1335kg. But the winner in this category wasn’t chosen on figures alone, of course. Scores are awarded for equipment, showering, kitchen efficiency and, also, styling – and this model scored exceptionally high in all sectors.
And the 554 gets an extra décor element that really adds a touch of luxury. The curtains in the bedroom hang on a chrome café-rod-style pole, the same style as that found in transverse-bed models higher up the Explorer Group’s portfolio.
Xplores have the 4kw Whale blown air and 8-litre Whale water heater.
Highly Commended: Coachman Vision 545
It’s heavier than the Major 4 EB but, at 1512kg MTPLM, the new Vision 545 can still safely be regarded as a lightweight.
Like the Major 4 EB, this new addition to the Vision range has an island bed at the rear with the shower towards the centre of the caravan.
The bedroom is divided from the showering-washing facilities by two sliding doors. These disappear neatly into the wall, sliding towards the centre of the room divider on which the washbasin and mirror are mounted. It’s a practical concept which works really well.
Highly Commended: Caravelair Antarès 455
Three of the six new Antarès models are primarily designed for couples. There’ a twin-bed model, a compact end-kitchen two-berth –and the 455, the one we consider is destined to be among the most popular of the couples’-layout Antarès models; it has a double bed and a U-shaped lounge.
An important feature of this model is that the bed has no cut-off section; it’s 2m long and 1.4m wide. The lounge, because of its U-shape, seems much more spacious than the caravan’s body length would suggest.
Highly Commended: Sprite Major 4 EB
This new model brings to the budget, lightweight Sprite range a layout that’s luxurious –and in high fashion. It has an island double bed at the rear and a shower-toilet area spanning the width of the caravan forward of the bedroom. With an MTPLM of just 1433kg and a price of £16,585, the latest couples’ Sprite is sure to be a popular model, for it brings the on-trend rear bed layout into the lightweight, compact caravan sector.
