A & B Caravans of Flintshire

PETER and Wendy McDonald are your friendly hosts at A & B Caravans, where first timers are guaranteed to receive all the advice they need. Many of their high quality used caravans are arranged within the all-weather comfort of a brightly lit indoor showroom, where you can always be assured of comfortable viewing all the year round.  After a good breakfast with Peter in the café next door, I selected two of their most tempting used buys.

1. Vanmaster Fanfare

Year: 2002.
Berths: 2
Price £9,750.
Internal length: 4.40m
MTPLM: 1,680kg
MIRO: 1,435kg

Superb condition inside and out, a well planned interior and excellent value for money.

No lightweight, but no faults found at all.

Mart’s impressions:

Vanmaster Fanfare used caravan imageWhat can you say? Vanmaster make a cracking tourer and the specification exceeds most people’s requirements. Taking pride of place in the showroom, the exterior of this end washroom model was just like brand new.

Step inside and the Fanfare oozes charm and quality. With natural wood veneers the quality shines through in every corner. The super front lounge feels so roomy while the side kitchen has an almost domestic feel to it, with an ample worktop and plenty of cupboard space.

An extremely well made side dresser offers even more storage should you need it. Lighting levels are top notch and even extends to low level lighting in the seat bases. The end washroom has the craftsman feel and is well planned out for the compact dimensions.

Mart’s verdict:

Tourers like this don’t come along every day and the price even includes a caravan mover. The high quality upholstery is completely stain-free and the entire caravan also benefits from A & B’s arty presentation.

2. Compass Amazon 505

Year: 2004
Berths: 5
Price: £7.495
Internal length: 5.00m
MTPLM: 1,350kg
MIRO: 1,118kg

Excellent double dinette layout, a Campbell’s dealer special with a high specification.

Looks a little dated, waste bin on door. No Heki roof light.

Mart’s impressions:

Compass Amazon 505 used caravan imageThis Compass Amazon was based on the budget Corona, but is transformed when it is boosted with some of the higher-spec Omega fittings, such as a CD/radio, upgraded upholstery, an external barbecue point and a wet locker.

The exterior was in good condition but does now look dated. The interior still feels modern though, with panelled locker doors and a super double wardrobe. Lighting including 12 volt spot lights and mains units. The fully equipped side kitchen includes a full oven and has a fold-down worktop extension.

The centre washroom comes with shower and cassette loo and a high quality, moulded plastic vanity unit. The end dinette is a great place for children to hang out in their own space.

Mart’s verdict:

The Amazon will provide excellent accommodation for a family of five. The front dinette offers seating for up to six and makes into twin singles or a big double. The Amazon has to be great value when you consider the price tag.
