Wooda Farm, Cornwall Campsite Review

c7f072f5-cafb-4ed9-a9d4-1387e5dd9457
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. This is not our regular touring philosophy, but it was part of my mission on our most recent trip to Cornwall. I’d been so impressed by the Eden Project on my first visit, over a decade ago when it was relatively little known, that I’d wanted to advertise it on my torso. Alas, I was frustrated then – and on a subsequent trip – as the gift shop had no shirts for sale. This time would be different.

Our base was Wooda Farm, a good hour’s drive away on the other side of Cornwall. Although there are other parks closer to St Austell, this was a family holiday that would also involve taking the teenagers surfing at Bude, and visiting some of the many cultural attractions of north Cornwall.

It turned out to be a great choice, not just for the location but for the range and quality of facilities on site. Wooda Farm is very much a family-oriented holiday park, and occupies a commanding position over Bude and Widemouth Bay. The merest glimpse of the sea adds so much to the feeling of being on holiday.

We were given a nicely screened level pitch from which we could easily see whether the waves were likely to be too much for the novice surfers. If they were, there was plenty to keep the young occupied. A family game of badminton became something of an epic, but I was able to plead injury (and so avoid embarrassment) when the offspring wanted to challenge the old man to a race on the exercise bikes in the well-equipped gym.

When fresh air was called for, the surrounding woodland and nature trails proved irresistible to us and our family dog. She disgraced herself by finding the only patch of mud for miles around, so we were delighted to find Wooda’s new dog shower. No campsite that accepts springer spaniels should be without one.

And that elusive t-shirt? I’m beginning to think they don’t exist.
