Holiday park worker aiming to raise £10,000 for charity by taking on 72-hole golf challenge

The General Manager of Malvern View Holiday Park, on the border of Herefordshire and Worcestershire, is hoping to raise £10,000 for charity, by taking part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s Longest Day Challenge.

Jon Hodgson, who lives in Pembrokeshire, will take on the golfing feat that consists of 72 holes (four full games of golf), 25 miles of walking and 12 hours of swinging, chipping and putting, from sunrise to sunset on Thursday 22 July 2021.

Park Leisure, which operates 11 holiday home parks throughout the UK, including Malvern View, has donated £5,000 towards Jon’s £10,000 target. The company offers holiday homes for sale at all of their locations, with five of the parks also offering short breaks. Other local companies that are sponsoring some of the 72 holes include the Hereford branch of Marsh Commercial and Ramtech Electronics.

Jon will be tackling the challenge at Burstwick Country Golf Club alongside his twin brother Nick and close friends, Ally Campbell and Andy Cressey, who are all looking forward to taking on the ultimate golf game.

Jon said, “We’re all really excited to get stuck into this! I've always been a huge fan of golf, but 72 holes is a lot even for me so I’m hoping I can keep my energy up throughout the day. This cause means a lot to all of the team at Malvern View as we sadly lost a member of our maintenance team to cancer not long ago. The work that Macmillan do is truly amazing and it’s a great honour to be able to help raise money for them, enabling them to continue giving much-needed care and support to more and more people.”

Lisa Williams, Director of Marketing and Holiday Sales at Park Leisure, said: “We’re behind Jon 100% and will be cheering him on every step of the way. We are really pleased to be able to support this great charity by donating £5,000 to Jon’s fundraising target. It’s also been great to see some fantastic local businesses sponsor some holes too and really get behind the cause.

The public can donate to the team’s fundraising page here.
