Devon holiday park installs 16 electric vehicle charging points
Cofton Holidays, near Dawlish in Exeter, has installed 16 electric vehicle (EV) charging points for day visitors and guests.
The Devon holiday park — which caters for touring vehicles and tent campers, as well as providing lodges, holiday cottages and apartments — has invested £60,000 in the 16 EV charging points, which is more than any other business in the South West.
This installation is the most recent in a series of sustainable initiatives undertaken by Cofton Holidays — including the introduction of wildlife corridors, an electric vehicle for housekeeping, and the installation of solar power units on the park's 12 new luxury lodges — taking the park's total spend on environmentally-focuesed projects in the last year to £250,000.
Chris Jeffery, director at Cofton Holidays, said: “For us, sustainability is the future of tourism. Our investment in Pod Point EV charging points is an investment in all our futures. That’s why we’re introducing one of the lowest charging rates in the region at just 22p per kw. Our goal is to encourage greater use of electric vehicles both among local residents and visitors. It’s one of the many ways that we are looking to reduce the carbon footprint here at Cofton.
Chris added: “Looking forward, we’ll be investing further in more charging units for guests staying at our cottages and apartments at our other site in Dawlish Warren, The Eastdon Estate. We’ll also be introducing three further electric vehicles, adding to the EV van for housekeeping, two micro trucks and two groundsmen’s vehicles.”
