Pakefield has a lovely feel to it: friendly staff, modern facilities, attention to detail – all in all a delightful campsite, with lots to offer families and couples alike. The touring area, with its own toilet and shower block, is just inside the park’s perimeter fence with easy approach to the beach footpath.
Its location separates the camping fraternity from the holiday village yet still allows access to all the amenities. The pitches are set on grass in two parallel rows facing across an asphalt strip. There is some new tree planting which will add to the attractiveness of the site. The key-pad entry shower block has excellent ramped access, is modern, well serviced and pristine. Laundry facilities are available too.
A short walk takes you to the reception area where there is a small shop selling basic dry goods: tins and packets. Comprehensive shopping is available at Morrisons, half a mile away. There is an adventure playground area with climbing frames for the children, conveniently sited by the Cliftonville Clubhouse, so mum and dad can sit outside with a cold drink yet still keep a watchful eye on the children. The clubhouse features free seasonal entertainment too. Wi-Fi is available on the campsite, and there is good television reception.
The main campsite is divided in two by the footpath that runs to the beach. The outdoor heated swimming pool is easily reached in the second part of the site and has a refreshment area and poolside seating. The beach is a mixture of shingle and sand but, most importantly, is dog friendly - one of the few beaches in the area where you can exercise your dog, whatever the season.
Minutes from the campsite, is Suffolk's wildlife park, Afrika Alive, where 100 acres are given over to a walking safari of giraffes, rhinos, cheetahs, hyenas and hundreds more African animals and birds.
Away from Pakefield there is so much to do and to explore. Turn inland to enjoy the waterways of Oulton Broad, where you can take a gentle boat trip, feed the swans and enjoy the gardens of Nicholas Everitt Park. (Approach via Bridge Road for motorhome parking.) The coastal towns of Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Southwold are within easy reach too.
Summer sees a plethora of events: air shows, dragon boat racing, power boat racing, music festivals and even a weekend of shanty-singing and fish filleting! Pakefield Park makes for a good base for so many events and you will need to come back time and time again.
