A few miles inland fringed by pine trees, there’s a tranquil ambience here - alongside heated indoor and outdoor pools. Mind you, the park is still located near Great Yarmouth and the Norfolk Broads too – for all the excitement you can handle. ...

It’s not often you drive into the entrance of a campsite and be greeted by a grinning Llama… but that’s exactly what confronted us when we arrived at Wild Duck Holiday Park.

Suitably amused, we drove the 100-or-so yards to the campsite’s main entrance and reception area. The first impression we got of this campsite is one of a bright, relaxed and family atmosphere. Opposite the reception block is a large outdoor play area next to a games room, where a number of children were hanging upside down from the many monkey bars and wooden-framed climbing ‘things’.

That’s the best thing about Haven Holiday Parks (and Wild Duck is no exception) and that is everything is geared up for children. Who cares if your little one is up at five in the morning and wants to go for a game of crazy golf, or can’t sleep at night because they’re insistent on wearing their water-wings in bed…You might be stumbling around your caravan, motorhome or tent like a zombiefied insomniac, but what makes a holiday is seeing your children have a good time.

Wild Duck is set in beautiful woodlands, and only a few miles from Great Yarmouth and all the attractions a traditional British seaside town offers. On site, the attractions are many and varied – from adventure playgrounds, amusements and games room, to a heated outdoor and indoor pool.

After a while spent getting ourselves settled on the touring field, we decided on a walk around the park, and maybe a spot of lunch.

One of the best aspects of Wild Duck is its well… ducks. Dozens and dozens of them, all milling around as if they owned the place. You couldn’t walk more than 100 yards without being followed by a waddling duck (which is excellent for children).

The facilities at Wild Duck are extensive. There is a bar and restaurant next to the indoor swimming pool, where a decent menu is offered and a place you can relax and watch the many activities being held in the pool. Opposite that is the Show Bar, where nightly entertainment is served up, and next to that is a shop, selling everything from food and drink to morning newspapers. (And if there is something that the site shop doesn’t stock, then there’s a convenience store just a minutes’ walk from the park entrance).

The touring facilities are excellent, with 130 pitches, most some having electric hook-up. The shower block is spotlessly clean, with a launderette coupled with drying and ironing facilities just next door. The touring pitches are well spaced out, giving the whole area a friendly but private feel. Also, the touring park is well away from the bar and entertainment complex, so you won’t be disturbed at night by any over-zealous bingo callers…

Another plus point about Wild Duck is that there’s a play area on the grounds of the touring field, so you can keep an eye on your little ones. A thoroughly recommended site if you’re planning to stay in any part of East Norfolk.
