Hawthorn Farm is situated at Martin Mill, two miles from the beautiful St Margaret's Bay near Dover. It is well signposted, lying to the north of the main A258 road, midway between Dover and Deal.
The site is ideally positioned to explore the delights of Kent and to view it as merely a stopover-site for the ferries from Dover is to do it a disservice. Within an hour's drive of the park are several seaside resorts including Herne Bay which features many historic buildings and is home to what is thought to be the world's first purpose-built freestanding clock tower - this dates back to 1837.
The site is on the same road as the station (which is on the Kent Coast line), making it an ideal base for those who prefer not to have to drive once they've pitched on site. The station allows easy access to both Deal and Dover. At Dover the track links up with a mainline service to London.
Deal is an attractive Georgian seaside town that offers a beach - voted by Telegraph readers as the 'top spot to lay a beach towel' - together with an elegant pier (named 'Pier of the year in 2008'). Offering a wide range of shops, restaurants, pubs, cafés and sandwich bars, as well as weekly markets and museums, it's a great place to visit. Deal also features an impressive Tudor castle that's open from the beginning of April to the end of September.
The train also stops at Walmer en route to Deal, where you'll find Grade 2 listed Walmer Castle, which is under the stewardship of English Heritage and features impressive Italian-style formal gardens. Built during the reign of Henry VIII, it's open from March to the end of October.
