Riverside is a quiet and secluded countryside park situated just a few hundred yards from the A38 in Plymouth. The site gives convenient access to the South Hams beaches, Dartmoor National Park, Cornwall and Brittany Ferries port in Plymouth.
With plenty of open space Riverside enjoys a very pleasant position amongst the Plym Valley, on a level site, bordered by both the River Plym and ancient woodland. Wildlife can be found in abundance here, including fallow deer, stoats, weasels, foxes and badgers. If you visit at dusk you may catch a glimpse of the resident bats. A variety of butterflies can be seen in the grassy meadows and the woodland glades that can be found off the river walks. Among the birdlife along the river you might spot heron, kingfisher, and dipper regularly nesting and feeding. Woodpeckers and jays frequent the woods whilst buzzards can be seen soaring above the tree tops. Plym Valley is also home to the Plym Peregrine Project with peregrine falcon watching commencing in March each year. The nearby Plym Valley Steam Railway operates public passenger days commencing Easter each year.
Plymouth Sound offers a full range of activities for those wishing to mess about in boats - from small sailing dinghies to Royal Navy ships. Within the city of Plymouth there is a combination of old and new architecture with the Elizabethan House and the Barbican being only a few minutes walk away from the modern Civic and University buildings, large chain stores and the Drake Circus Shopping Mall.
Plymouth is the gateway to Cornwall and the Brittany Ferries port offers easy access to France and Spain.
Many beaches and coves are within reasonable distance and a few miles to the north of the site lies Dartmoor. Further along the banks of the River Plym is the National Trust Saltram House. The local park and ride facility with a regular direct service into Plymouth City Centre is a level 15-minute stroll along the riverbank.
