This remarkably well-run site is proud to have won a David Bellamy Gold Award every year since 2000. Set in hilly South Devon countryside, it has memorable views and access is easy for motorhomes up to a maximum length of 30 feet.
Around the 14th Century farmhouse, pitches are set in three, named locations. The Orchard is set aside for tent campers, some of its 16 pitches having electric hook ups. The larger Butter Meadows’ pitches are all serviced, having fresh and waste water points, electric hook-ups and TV connections.
This area has a well-equipped toilet block, with a separate, ladies make-up area, vanity cubicles and a baby wash and change suite. There is also a laundry with coin-op equipment and a covered washing-up area.
At the top of both the site and the range is Blackrock Copse. There, the hardstanding pitches have the above facilities plus a WC chemical disposal point. The toilet block serving this area is outstandingly well appointed. It has climate control and spacious showers; underfloor heating adds to the luxurious feeling.
A separate building houses dishwashing and vegetable preparation facilities. The access and amenities for disabled customers are extensive and the site has Wi-Fi available for a small charge.
Out of doors, the list of inclusions continues. There is a tennis court, a large, separate dog exercising area and for children, there are two play sites, one a purpose-built adventure area, with a ‘fort’ and a Wendy house. Dornafield also has a licensed shop, microwave ovens, an ice pack exchange facility and a games room.
The tourist information room has details of numerous locations to visit off-site. Among these are Torbay, eight miles distant and Dartmoor, six miles away. Also nearby are the Bird of Prey Centre at Fermoys, Compton Castle, the Prickly Ball Hedgehog Sanctuary and Paignton Zoo. And the Union Inn, Denbury, the Wellington, Ippleton and the nearby Two-Mile Oak are recommended pub/restaurants.
Dornafield Caravan and Camping holds more awards than can be mentioned here. Having enjoyed its tranquil atmosphere and excellent facilities, it’s easy to see why.
