In the heart of the beautiful Devon countryside, well signed off the A38, lies Parkers Farm, a terraced campsite with several tiered areas, all overlooking the spectacular views of Dartmoor. You are on the doorstep of Dartmoor National Park, with superb moorland walks in an area of outstanding beauty, where the sheep and ponies roam free, and you can walk for days in different directions.
The children are well catered for in this campsite as there are several outdoor play areas, including trampolines, an indoor toddlers play room where they can safely play when you dine in the lovely restaurant, and a ‘must’ are the regular farm walks for all the family. It is a great opportunity for you to meet and feed the various animals on the campsite, including cows, pigs, ponies and many smaller animals which can be fed and handled. There is even a sheep that walks on a lead!
In high season there are visiting magicians and entertainers, fancy dress competitions and organised games in the children’s club. The busy market town of Ashburton is close by, with a heated outdoor pool if you do not want to drive to the beaches of Torbay and Paignton, with their miles of golden sands and safe swimming. The quaint fishing village of Brixham offers many different types of sea-going trips, from mackerel and shark fishing to trips to view the extensive coastline.
If the weather is poor, then a day spent at Woodlands Leisure Adventure Park will please the children. Here they can enjoy the many white knuckle rides on offer, as well as being able to escape indoors to the 10,000 sq ft of indoor entertainment if the weather is wet.
Castle Drogo, a magnificent castle built of Dartmoor granite, stands on a spur high above the Teign Gorge. Built between 1910-1930 this was the dream home of India tea baron Julius Drewe and the creation of the brilliant architect Edwin Lutyens. The external appearance is that of a medieval fortress, but inside the comfortable, sophisticated and intimate surroundings transport you back to a 1930’s country manor house. The beautiful gardens with their formal terraces and woodland gardens are beautifully kept and you can enjoy a game of croquet on the circular croquet lawn.
