The Old Post Office Campsite is a well kept secret and hidden away towards the west side of the Lake District. It is ideally positioned for getting to the mountains of Eskdale and particularly Wasdale, where you will find Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain.

If you are not a walker or mountain biker, you will find that this tree and wall surrounded campsite is very sheltered and a great place to tour the area from generally or just to sit on and unwind. The fast flowing River Irt runs down one side of it so you need to keep an eye on young children if you have them with you. A lovely bridge spans the river near the end of the campsite. The owners can arrange for fishing permits if you have brought your gear along. The campsite takes caravans, campervans and tents and access could be tight for longer units so check with the owners before turning up if you have one of these.

This is a long standing campsite that opened its doors way back in 1951 and has been popular ever since. The Old Post Office is a family run business and the owners know the local area well and will advise you on where to go and what to do.

The campsite is next to the little village of Santon Bridge and The Bridge Inn is just across the bridge from the campsite and very popular with campers.

Peace and quiet are the order of the day on this site and it also offers limited caravan storage as well.

There are five hardstanding pitches with electric hook-ups for caravans and various grass pitches with some extra electric hook-ups too. Tents use the rest of the field and most pitches overlook the river with some of the camping pitches right next to it. The site has spaces for thirty five units and the toilet facilities are kept clean and tidy and are adequate for the site. There are toilets and showers as well as washing up facilities and disabled toilets facilities too. There is also a laundry which is coin operated and a freezer which is free.

The campsite has a small sized children’s play area and a games section for ball kicking.

As this is a small campsite, make sure you book in advance in busy times to ensure you have a pitch.
