Established for over twenty years (having originally been a livestock farm) Green Hill Farm is a family-run campsite located in Wiltshire on the north eastern edge of the New Forest near the town of Landford. Access to the campsite is easy, even for the biggest of motorhomes, with all access roads and internal sites roads being wide and gravelled. Set amidst mature trees and scenic lakes spread over 50 acres it is a wonderfully relaxing location.
Although it's located within the New Forest - with many great walks available directly from the campsite - it's easy to find, too, being just a few miles away from junction 2 of the M27. It's far enough away to get zero noise on the campsite (save for the braying of the odd horse and the honk of a Canada goose or two) yet near enough to be just a few minutes from the motorway.
The campsite is accessed via a wide entrance with the reception being on the right. Originally founded as a basic five-van Camping and Caravan Club CS site (which still exists for the exclusive use of members) the campsite now offers about 100 pitches, with about 40 offering gravelled hardstandings. All have 16 amp electrical hook-ups.
These are dotted around three main lakeside areas, with the largest Wildlife Lake being near the entrance and surrounded by mature trees. Here you can expect to see everything from kingfishers to herons, plus the obligatory Canada geese merrily waddling about. Only a handful of pitches overlook this area (plus the five-caravan site) and they're all well spaced out adding to the relaxed feeling of space and open ambiance. Separated by trees are two further lakeside locations - the Fishing Lake (stocked with Roach, Carp in various flavours, Tench, Perch and Rudd - licences available from the nearby post office) with a small bridge separating a smaller fishing lake.
The pitches in these areas are equally well spaced out and all enjoy a picturesque view of the lake. The main bulk of the pitches are on a gently sloping field so levelling blocks are a good idea. For those that don't want to be near the three lakes, there are various other fields dotted around the 50-acre site with separated tent and rally fields also available (one of which also allows children in it, it's worth noting).
The campsite facilities are basic and consist of six toilet blocks, a laundry room and three shower blocks. All of these are in Portacabin style buildings (although the owner is currently applying for planning permission for brick-built blocks). However, this campsite isn't about on-site bars or discos, it's about getting back to nature and unwinding (or spearing nature with a hook if you're that way inclined!).
From the rustling of the wind through the trees to the chirp of birds, this campsite is virtually guaranteed to provide a relaxing stay. Off site, it's location makes it an obvious choice for further exploration of the New Forest, while the bus stop at the end of the site access road offers easy access to the nearby towns of Lymington and Salisbury if you don't want to take your vehicle off site.
The campsite owner thoughtfully provides a map detailing various interesting walks and, perhaps more importantly, the location of three good pubs that all offer good grub and are dog-friendly. All-in-all this is a super scenic site that offers plenty of space around the pitches and a winning location that is sure to be able to de-stress just about anyone.
