Erwlon Caravan & Camping Park

Located just off the A40 – but well screened from road noise by virtue of being set back from the road and shielded by hedging – Erwlon is within walking distance of Llandovery and offers 40 touring pitches. Electric hook-ups (in both 10 amp and 16 amp flavour) are available and there are full service pitches additionally featuring hardstandings and water fill and empty points.

Naturally there’s a motorhome emptying point and even a black waste empty point designed to suit RVs and premium motorhomes that have to use pumps to remove their black waste.

A tarmac road winds around the park serving all pitches and there is an open grass expanse, which accommodates more flexible pitching arrangements. The natural landscaping with the liberal use of flowering shrubs is entirely appropriate for a park on the edge of the Brecon Beacons and the Cambrian Mountains.

There's  an impressive outdoor play area for children that is constructed out of wood and opposite this structure, and also constructed out of wood, is the parks piece de resistance - its impressive toilet block. This really is a bit special and has actually won Loo of the Year 2007 for the whole of Wales. Looking at it it’s not hard to see why. For starters there’s a wide disabled access ramp to the front of it and the whole block is attractively styled like a continental holiday cottage with hanging baskets adding a touch of colour. Inside everything is immaculate and the stylish black marble floors are offset by attractive terracotta and cream tiles, with the loos panelled in blue. Naturally everything was immaculately clean (and it’s worth pointing out that we didn’t pre-warn the site of our visit).

There are separate facilities for disabled visitors/family rooms and these units are spacious and well equipped with a walk-in shower. Blue and grey tiles are used in here. There’s also a laundry room, a drying room and even a fridge-freezer for visitor use.

As if that wasn’t enough, even the chemical emptying point features a marble floor and posh tiles – it’s easily the most upmarket one we’ve ever seen!

Opposite the toilet block is an elevated part of the park which features about a dozen touring pitches on hardstandings, while if you carry on walking you enter the separate camping area. This is a spacious flat field that has been broken up with floral displays in a slate-based backing.

Although there’s no shop on site, the nearby town of Llandovery is a short walk away and is well worth visiting. As well as a Somerfield supermarket, it offers various pubs, sandwich shops and various takeaways including Chinese and fish and chips. It does offer parking (but there’s a 2.5-tonne limit) and is a very picturesque town with a castle framing the background.

If you don’t want to walk into town, the site also offers bike hire and its location makes it an ideal base for further exploration of the Brecon Beacons. It’s also worth pointing out that the site offers Wi-Fi internet access.
