Woodovis Park, Devon

91ef5b6b-94f0-47bb-ae97-c4b7df9c049a

Situated on the border of Devon and Cornwall, Woodovis Park is a family-run holiday park with an indoor pool, set in a wooded position on the edge of the Tamar Valley and close to Dartmoor.

It pulls off the neat trick of being both rural and having lots to do in equal measure. There’s 14 acres of pitches and parkland with a woodland walk and play area, as well as a whole host of facilities for the family.

One of the site’s main attractions is an indoor heated swimming pool with spa pool. It’s available for guests’ use completely free. There is also outdoor table tennis, a petanque court, games room, and off-licence.

There are two camping fields, with all-weather, grass, and super pitches all with electric, serviced by toilets and showers, a laundry and dishwashing. A dog wash and woodland walk are also provided. And if you want to leave the tent behind, the camping pods and super pods let you enjoy the great outdoors without any hassle.

In peak season there are all sorts of activities going on such as archery, storytelling, water walking and axe-throwing (!), along with electric bike hire. Kids can also hone their circus skills, with opportunities, for young campers to try everything from juggling to slacklining to spinning plates. Sessions run twice a week in school holiday periods.

In the morning, the smell of fresh coffee wafts across the site thanks to a mobile barista pod, called A Perfect Blend Southwest, which serves hot breakfasts and cakes.

It’s the ideal complement to the twice-weekly hog roast that takes place on site, as well as the fresh bread and croissants that can be ordered each day from the shop.

Away from the site, there are a variety of attractions in the area and the site offers discounts to guests at many of them including Moretonhampstead Motor Museum, the Eden Project and Morwellham Quay. Dartmoor itself provides a range of outdoor activities and the coastal city of Plymouth is within driving distance.

EATING OUT
The town of Tavistock has loads of eating options, from fish and chips to fine dining. The East Gate Brasserie boasts a superb location, the only riverside restuarant in town. Robertson’s offers up a fine selection of gourmet pizzas, salads, sandwiches and pastas and meals. Pizzas can be eaten in or taken away and they will even deliver to Woodovis. The Tavi Friar is a traditional fish and chip shop where you can eat in or take away and the Ganges does great Indian food.

For a special treat, the award-winning Horn Of Plenty is one of the best restaurants in the southwest and is just a five-minute drive from Woodovis Park, offering foodies gourmet-quality lunch, dinner and afternoon tea.
