Porth Beach Holiday Park

If you’re a fan of Poldark's brooding hero Ross, you’ll be happy to discover that Porth Beach is perfectly placed for visiting some of the BBC show’s key locations. Just 12 miles away is St Agnes Head (setting of the fictional Nampara estate), in 17 miles, you’ll be in bustling Charlestown Harbour while dramatic Bodmin Moor is 20 miles away.

The pretty settlement of Porth is nestled in a sheltered bay, and the site occupies a stunning beach-side location here. The golden sands are 100 yards from the campsite, which is surrounded by open countryside. Let’s be honest, you’ll probably not see Ross or Demelza at the washing up sinks, but you are guaranteed to have a drama-free stay while you are here

The popular resort of Newquay is a short walk away with attractions, bars and restaurants and the park is within easy reach of Cornwall attractions such as the Eden Project and Flambards Theme Park. If you fancy a local pint of ale or bite to eat, head to the Mermaid Inn which is right on the beach.

This is a big site where you’ll not be short of things to do and there’s a regular bus service from right outside the entrance should you want to leave the car behind and enjoy a stress-free ride. Glamping pods are available too, so if you’re with friends who don’t own a tent (fools!) then they can stay too! The pods are also close to the park’s main facilities, which include an immaculate shower and toilet block.

NEED TO DO
The bustling holiday resort of Newquay has a harbour, lots of sandy beaches, a zoo, plenty of little shops, boats for hire, sea fishing and more. It’s also the surfing capital of the UK.

Porth Beach is right across the road, with rockpools and surfing as well as a huge expanse of golden sands. Other nearby beaches include Towan, Great Western, Holywell Bay and Tolcarne.

The Camel Trail starts at Wadebridge town, going on to Padstow or Bodmin. You can hire bikes locally.

Port Isaac is a 14th century fishing village with whitewashed cottages etc. You might recognise it as the location for the Doc Martin TV series.

EATING OUT
The Mermaid Inn, is a welcoming pub right on Porth Beach, where you can enjoy top quality food and drink. There is also a tapas restaurant called Estrella Morada that is worth checking out.

Newquay has loads of eating options, including the Fish House and Rick Stein’s place at Fistral Beach. Or head into the town for the Portuguese Restaurant and Bar or Bush Pepper (Australian), among many others.
