Keeping children entertained while on holiday can be a bit of a challenge. Our handy guide to the best sites for families helps take away the hassle of looking for sites that all the family can enjoy. The selection below has lots of handy family favourites such as swimming pools, play areas and places to eat, along with a world's natural playground - the great outdoors.

Mortonhall Caravan & Camping Park, Edinburgh

Set within a country estate, just four miles from Edinburgh city centre, Mortonhall combines leafy green parkland with bustling city attractions. There’s a bus service into the city so you can experience everything Edinburgh has to offer and then return to a peaceful location after a busy day’s exploring. The park has four different types of pitch giving a choice of grass or hardstanding with or without electricity and fully serviced with water. Facilities on site include a stable bar and restaurant, toilets and showers and a licensed shop. There are miles of walks around the estate and you can walk into the city centre if you wish.

This is a well-established leisure and water park with a touring campsite offering 56 pitches, some of which are located by the waterside and are all fully serviced. Facilities include a licensed café, beach area, children’s play areas and acres of open park land. Fishing is free to those staying on the site. This is the place to come if you want access to a variety of adrenaline-filled family fun on the water coupled with a peaceful country park where you can relax and take a walk.

Set among 500 acres of rolling Devon countryside, Stowford Farm Meadows features a wide range of fantastic facilities including places to eat, bars, horse riding and an indoor swimming pool. It also has the ‘Petorama’ farm complex where kids can pet a range of animals. Stowford is a dog-friendly site and there are 70 acres of woodland to explore. along with a nature trail with clues for children to follow. The coast at Ilfracome is just 15 minutes' drive away. The family attractions of Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park and Watermouth Castle are nearby.
