This is a high quality campsite close to all the action of the surf capital, Newquay. Hendra offers a variety of pitches, some quiet and relaxed, others closer to the action, and there are car free fields for safe family camping.

In addition to the maintenance, deep cleaning and general sprucing duties that occupy campsites over winter, Hendra Holiday Park had an additional task – to build a bigger display cabinet for all its latest awards.

Last year this five-star holiday park basked in the sparkle of gems and precious metals with a Hoseason’s Diamond Award, Platinum Loo of the Year Award, AA Platinum Award, alongside multiple accolades for its flower displays and landscaping.

So while we could mention Fistral, the world-class surfing beach on the site’s Newquay doorstep; highlight one of the finest stretches of the entire 630-mile South West Coast Path nearby at Pentire Head; or whet your appetite with talk of Cornish cream teas and pasties, there’s a good chance you’ll never want to step outside this 80-acre park.

Toddlers, teens and experienced tourers will revel in the abundance of on-site attractions. There are heated indoor and outdoor pools, a free land train, and an outdoor gym and play parks to burn off youthful energy.

If all this activity leaves you too tired to contemplate campsite cooking, treat yourself to Hendra’s takeaway pizza and fish ‘n’ chips, or dine in at the Terrace Bar & Restaurant and Mario’s Pizzeria.

Later in the evening, look forward to thrilling live stage performances, before dancing the night away in the disco. Then sleep in blissful peace before the adventure begins again in the morning.

NEED TO DO
Newquay has a harbour, lots of sandy beaches, a zoo, plenty of little shops, boats for hire, sea fishing and more. It’s also the surfing capital of the UK, with Fistral Beach the Wembley of surfing.

Other nearby beaches include Towan, Great Western, Porth, Holywell Bay and Tolcarne (for families, especially); Polly Joke (rockpools and caves), Mawgan Porth (swimming, family surfing, etc) and two-mile-long Perranporth, with its sea water pool.

The Camel Trail starts at Wadebridge town, going on to Padstow or Bodmin. You can hire bikes locally.

Port Isaac is a 14th century fishing village with whitewashed cottages, etc. You might recognise it as the location for the Doc Martin TV series.

EATING OUT
Simply stay on site and you’ll be well-fed, at the award-wining chip shop and Mario’s Pizzeria.

Newquay has loads of options, including the Fish House and Rick Stein’s place at Fistral Beach. Or head into the town for the Portuguese Restaurant and Bar or Bush Pepper (Australian), among many others.
