WHO’S IT FOR?
Family campers who prefer poled tents to inflatable but don’t want to compromise on comfort and quality

WHAT’S IT LIKE?
For all the benefits of inflatable tents, there are still many campers who prefer traditional poles and this brand new tent from Vango is for them. The Oakmere is Vango’s first technical cotton pole tent and is a top-of-the range model that is packed with excellent features. It really is a superb tent. The main benefit of inflatable tents is the ease of pitching – undoubtedly they are generally quicker and easier to put up. However there is a price to pay for the convenience. Generally, inflatable tents are heavier and bulkier than equivalent poled versions. And there’s a literal price to pay as well, with an inflatable family tent usually costing a couple of hundred pounds more than a similar non-inflatable model. So with that in mind, if you are happy to take that little bit more time pitching, then this is a great option. And to be honest, this tent is almost as easy to put up as an inflatable. It is a little more fiddly and you will need two pairs of hands, but overall it shouldn’t take much longer. The Oakmere fits into Vango’s ‘Sleep Better’ ethos for 2020 – based around the idea that the most successful camping trips are the ones where you get the best night’s sleep. A new range of airbeds and sleeping bags is augmented by the Midnight bedroom inners across several of the new tents, including this one. These are made from darkened, non-coated, breathable material and are designed to stop the early morning sunshine disturbing your sleep. Toggle dividers let you decide the configuration of the bedrooms. The large living area has plenty of windows, all with patterned curtains and plenty of space for furniture. The inner door, which leads out into the front porch, has mesh ventilation panels on each side and the side door can be turned into a shelter if you buy the optional ‘king poles’. The porch itself is a good-sized space, with enough room for cooking and dining. Other features include the Vango TBS stabilisation system, drop down doorways, easy access to bedrooms and good ventilation in the living and sleeping areas.

WHAT’S GOOD?
Easy to pitch; darkened ‘Midnight’ bedrooms; useful front porch area; spacious living room and good-sized bedrooms; excellent ventilation
