OUR VERDICT Superb materials, high-quality workmanship and stunning design – this is a fine example of how poled tents can still turn heads.
A family tent for keen campers who don’t want to hold back on quality – but could work even better for couples
Snow Peak has championed the outdoor lifestyle in its native Japan since 1958, but it was a new brand to us in 2020. From its flagship store in London, Snow Peak supplies a large range of camping gear and outdoor clothing that embodies stylish Japanese design combined with functionality.
The company says its mission is to produce beautiful, functional designs that should last customers a lifetime. And nowhere does that apply more than in its wide range of tents, from family camping and adventure travel to luxury glamping.
The Elfield is a superb example of a tent that looks good without losing anything on the technical side. It is an all-in-one, two-room shelter with living space and a separate bedroom that sleeps up to four, although we think it would perhaps be ideal as a tent for couples.
Another option is to remove the bedroom inner completely to create a modified shelter that potentially fits up to eight.
It has a simple structure that is easy for camping beginners to set up, using just four arch frames and a ridge pole. At a time when inflatable tents are becoming the norm, especially at the upper end of the market, it’s good to see a quality tent that caters for campers who prefer the traditional style.
The tent also comes with an inner room and a roof sheet. The flysheet has UV protection and Teflon water-repellent finish.
At more than £900, this is certainly not a cheap option but if you’re looking for quality and practicality then it should definitely be on your list of options.
