Sea to Summit Ultrasil shopping bag

ONE of the big environmental issues we face is the number of plastic bags that pollute our surroundings – a gross eyesore that hangs around for decades, destroying wildlife and entering into our food chain in the process.

Such big issues do not need big solutions. You can cut back on the carrier bags used by investing in one of the many lightweight and low-bulk shopping bags that have recently entered the market. Such bags are small enough to hang on a key ring where they are ready to use to carry your shopping between site shop and tent – or even corner shop and home.

One particular favourite is Sea to Summit’s Ultra-Sil shopping bag. The use of siliconised ultra-light, high strength Cordura means that it not only packs away in the small 7cm x 4cm integrated bag but we are told it is strong enough to hold 130kg of shopping – more than up to the task of carrying most big men as our photo shows.

In fact, it has the capability to carry weights far in excess of anything you can comfortably hold in its 25-litre capacity.

A few of these are a great addition to any camping cupboard and have numerous uses around a campsite, from carrying clothes and pots to the wash house to stashing toys away quickly at night. Use its clip to hang it near the tent door where it is always handy – after all, you might even want to use one for the shopping.
