A great value large family tent that uses technology designed to keep the tent cool in hot weather making it a good choice for overseas camping.

VALUE RATING ****

KEY FEATURES

  • Fresh & Black climate control
  • Vis a vis style
  • Front porch area
  • Low-level bedroom ventilation
  • Inflatable dome system

WHO’S IT FOR?
It’s designed to sleep up to eight, but this would be far better suited to a family of four or five. It’s quick to pitch so would be fine for weekends or longer trips, especially in hotter climes.

WHAT’S IT LIKE?
Decathlon’s own-brand tents are very popular thanks, in no small part, to their excellent value for money. But it’s not all about price. Quechua tents always have interesting design features and the Air Seconds 8.4XL is no exception. It’s a big, vis a vis inflatable tent with a central dome and sloping bedrooms at each end.

The Fresh & Black technology is designed to keep the tent cool in the hottest temperatures. The fabric reflects heat away from the tent and the darkened material physically blocks the sun’s rays. This makes it quite dark inside but does mean it’s far more comfortable on sunny days, especially first thing in the morning.

The living area between the two end bedrooms isn’t vast but there is decent headroom and enough room for some furniture. Other features in the living area include a large rear window, storage pockets and a washing line.

Each bedroom can fit two double airbeds, with zip dividers for more privacy. The low level ventilation in the bedrooms helps with the air flow and reduces condensation issues.

WHAT’S GOOD?
The tent is a decent size overall and the vis a vis style is good for families with older kids. The Fresh & Black technology is great for summer camping and there is plenty of ventilation throughout.

WHAT COULD BE IMPROVED?
Like many vis a vis tents, it’s quite dark inside as the number of windows is limited. We also found that the curtain hooks were quite fiddly.
