OUR VERDICT A sleek family tent with the wow factor – plenty of features, quality materials and loads of room for you to spread out on that big summer camping getaway.
Sometimes it’s easy to forget how far tent technology has progressed over the years. A decade ago inflatable tents were very much expensive, niche products – but these days they have become commonplace.
Features once only found in top-of-the-range models, like tinted windows, cable entry ports, storage pockets and sewn-in groundsheets, are now considered standard. And new innovation, such as silent magnetic doors, darkened bedrooms and internal hanging systems are always being developed.
While these grab all the attention, in some ways it’s the less glamorous stuff that is even more impressive – the features that make your tent more weatherproof, easier to put up and generally more user-friendly.
The sleek Outwell Springville 6SA is a brilliant example of a tent that is packed with these new features. In fact, it boasts pretty much everything that I’ve mentioned above, and more. And not only that, it has loads of room for you to spread out on that big summer camping getaway.
On the outside, the flysheet uses Outwell’s innovative ripstop fabric, or Outtex 6000 Endurance RS to give it its posh name. Designed to give the Springville extra resistance to tears, it’s a version of the sort of high-end fabric used on many technical tents and adds a quality feel.
The tent sleeps six – or five for more comfort – and it’s ideal for longer family breaks. It has excellent ventilation in the living and sleeping areas and the large front canopy creates a really useful outdoor living space, so it’s perfect for summer getaways.
The panoramic front door lets you take advantage of the warm weather and bring the outdoors in. All things considered, this is a really classy family tent.
