Who’s the Outwell Mountain Lake 5ATC for?

Serious campers looking for top-of-the-range luxury for their big summer holidays

What’s the Outwell Mountain Lake 5ATC like?

Coming in at just a penny short of £2,000, there’s no getting away from the fact that this is an expensive tent. In fact, you won’t find too many mainstream family tents with a bigger price tag. But if it’s luxury camping you’re after then look no further.

If you splash out that amount of money on a tent you expect something a bit special – and that’s exactly what Outwell delivers here. The Mountain Lake 5ATC is an investment in future memories.

This is not for first-timers or for campers who take the odd weekend break. To buy a tent like this, you really need to be serious about camping. Imagine yourself on three-week stays on the Cornwall coast or glorious sun-drenched summer holidays on the edge of an Alpine lake rather than a couple of nights at the campsite up the road.

This is also the sort of tent you’ll want to fit out with furniture and accessories to create a home-from-home under the stars. So if your idea of camping is getting back-to-basics and ditching all the fripperies of modern life, then this is probably not for you. But if you can afford it, and you want something that’s as far removed as you can get from the lazy stereotype of camping as a cold, wet and generally miserable experience, then this should definitely be on your wish list.

What makes it so special? Well, for starters, it looks, feels and even smells great thanks to the polycotton fabric, made up of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. The Gothic-shaped air poles are pleasing to the eye, but also create increased headroom and more usable floor space. The tent is made up of three zones – the enclosed front porch, the main living room and the sleeping area.

Access from the porch into the living area is through silent Quick & Quiet Access Doors, which use magnets instead of zips. On the side of the tent, the unique Wing Lounge offers an extra space for relaxing – the perfect place to set up comfortable inflatable sofa. Large tinted windows let you sit and watch campsite life unfold, with zip-up curtains providing privacy.

The Ambassador master bedrooms provide extra height and floor space, with cable entry points that allow you to run electric cable into the sleeping area. The Rear Ventilation System provides good airflow in the bedrooms.
