THE Fusion 300 is a new style of pop-up tent – and one that appears to be of far superior quality when compared with others on the market. Pitching is easy – like all the other pop-up tents you just undo the retaining strap and let it pop erect before positioning and pegging out. On the other hand, it is pointless to try and explain how to fold it away. After all, a picture tells a thousand words and you can find a video on Outwell’s website that clearly shows the procedure.

Once up, the Fusion 300 starts to justify its price tag. It is far more like a normal tunnel tent and feels more robust than a typical pop-up. As usual, we have a rear mesh vent protected by a stiff-rimmed cowl. And we have an apex vent over each of the vinyl windows that sit each side of the door. These are backed by drop down curtains that toggle shut.

The door folds to the left, and its zip is well protected from the rain. The door leads to a good size porch. However, if you think this is big then check out the inner – there is certainly room here for sleeping mats, bags and kit.

The inner is permanently attached to the outer to make pitching easier and to maintain the correct air gap between them. The inner tent’s door has a mesh panel and folds open into a pocket.

Camping says So what differentiates the Fusion from less expensive tents? Well, it has reinforced patches on all stress points; the inner is permanently attached; it has luminous guys; and its ventilation feels above average. And lovers of this style of tent will undoubtedly appreciate its ease of packing and you certainly cannot question its convenience. Would I have one? Hmm, I just have not got the knack or patience to get a pop-up tent back into its bag...
