A basic, but spacious, pole-construction tunnel tent that does all the good things well, if not spectacularly
PRICE £399 (Expect to pay £179)
WHO’S IT FOR?
Family campers looking for lots of space at an affordable cost
WHAT’S IT LIKE?
In the five or six years since Olpro launched, this British brand has built up a reputation for producing good quality tents at affordable prices, making them particularly popular with newcomers to camping. That’s not to say camping veterans should ignore them. Tents like the Malvern are basic but well-made and offer most of the features you’d expect from a more expensive model, including a 5,000mm hydrostatic head rating for waterproof.
What we like most about it is the amount of space on offer. The sweeping front porch is
large enough to set up your camping kitchen and prepare meals outdoors even when it’s raining. It’s also an ideal place to sit in the shade on hot, sunny afternoons. The living room is bright and spacious, too, with good ventilation and plenty of room for furniture.
The PVC windows let in plenty of light and the mesh-backed door at the side provides an alternative entry point as well as excellent air flow. The bedrooms at the rear are divided by a removable panel and would accommodate six at a push, although would be far more comfortable for a family of four. There’s further ventilation provided by the mesh panel at the rear and there is a storage panel for small items in the living room.
A couple of things are lacking – darkened fabric in the bedrooms and an entry port for electric hook-up – but overall this is a great value tent.
Good value, currently available for £179; lots of living space and a good-sized front porch area
