WHO’S IT FOR?
Ideal for family camping trips or for larger groups of friends who want to glamp it up at events like festivals.

WHAT’S IT LIKE?
The days are long gone when a camping trip meant shivering on a foam mattress in a cramped tent, with puddles forming on the groundsheet where the rain leaked in. Advances in design and technology mean tents are generally more waterproof and sturdy than they’ve ever been, with acres of space to move around in. But despite these obvious benefits, there are many campers who miss the look, feel and smell of old-style canvas tents. And that’s why bell tents like this are growing in popularity – combining a traditional, “glampy” appearance with modern technology to provide the best of both worlds.

Available in either sand or grey, Life Under Canvas’s 5m bell tent is the firm’s best-seller. It’s made from 100% cotton canvas so feels just like those tents you slept in as a child, but unlike those early models is treated to repel water, rot and mould. The groundsheet is made out of heavy duty, waterproof PVC and is zipped-in to keep it water-tight and to prevent bugs and small animals getting in.  On hot days, the floor can be unzipped and the sides rolled up to provide extra ventilation. All four windows on the tent are fitted as standard with mosquito mesh, to let in fresh air but keep bugs out. The front doors are also mesh-backed, meaning there is loads of ventilation when the temperature rises.

Inside, the tent is spacious, with a large single living area that can accommodate up to seven single beds, ideal for festival camping. For family trips, there is loads of space for five beds and plenty of camping furniture. The optional extra inner tent can create separate sleeping areas and a more defined living space and you can also go for an optional awning to extend the living space.

The guylines are bright green for better visibility and the metal sliders provide strength and stabilty in strong winds. Pitching is easy – simply lay the tent out flat, peg it down and lift the central metal pole into position. Fit the poles for the doorway into place then peg out the guylines and you are good to go. The whole process took us around half an hour from start to finish and the package even comes with a mallet!

WHAT’S GOOD?
Easy to pitch and lots of space inside. It comes with a longer door spike for easy awning attachment, toggles around the edge to tidy the guyropes after use, and two rain caps as standard. The carry bag has a waterproof PVC panel on the bottom.
