The little brother of the award-winning Octagon is a really fun tent that will appeal to families and groups of friends who love festivals.
WHAT’S IT LIKE?
The Octagon is a former Camping magazine Tent Of The Year and one of Coleman’s most popular tents. Now it has a little brother, the small but perfectly formed OctaGo. It is essentially a smaller – some might say cuter – version of the Octagon, sharing the layout and style of the original in a more compact set-up.
Pitching is straightforward and can be done in minutes by one person; start by laying the inner tent out flat and inserting the shorter steel poles into the central hub and the corner connectors. Add the longer upright poles and clip them to the inner then peg it all out and add the flysheet over the top. It can all be done in 10 minutes, max.
The tent has a canopy over the front door to provide shelter from the rain and there’s a good flow of air into the tent. Inside, the single living/sleeping area is big enough for four adults, but would perhaps work better for a couple, with or without kids. Although you can’t stand upright inside, there is plenty of room to move around, and the mesh windows mean it feels bright and spacious.
The flysheet has a hydrostatic head of 2,000mm, which should be adequate to deal with downpours, and UVGuard coating with an SPF 50 to protect you from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Because it’s pitched inner first, it’s possible to use it without the flysheet attached as a bug-proof summer room for the garden.
