Camping holidays in the UK have never been more popular. And it looks like 2021 is going to be another busy year on the campsite.

So if you are planning to camp in Britain this summer it's important to know where you will find the best sites.

As the popularity of British camping holidays continues to rise, the AA has named the top camping spots in the country, with southwest England revealed as the UK’s camping capital.

Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset came out on top for counties with the most campsites receiving the coveted AA Platinum Pennant award.

The best spot for camping in Wales has been named as Gwynedd, while Dumfries and Galloway is the Scottish region with the highest number of top-quality campsites.

Cornwall has 86 campsites included in the 2021 AA Caravan & Camping Guide, with 13 of the sites being awarded a Platinum Pennant. Meanwhile, Devon has 59 AA-rated campsites, North Yorkshire has 46, Dorset has 39 and Somerset has 30.

Gwynedd has 22 AA-rated campsites, and Dumfries and Galloway boasts 17.

As well as traditional campsites, the guide also features more than 200 sites offering glamping facilities, including yurts, shepherd’s huts and vintage caravans. And it includes more than 70 sites which the AA has approved as Covid Confident, marking them as following government guidelines.

Simon Numphud, Managing Director at AA Media, said: “In an unprecedented year of challenges for holidaymakers and the hospitality industry, we are glad to be able to celebrate the country’s fantastic camping and caravan sites. With international travel restricted, we are seeing more Britons than ever discover the incredible camping destinations the UK has to offer.

Due to the pandemic, the 2021 guide does not feature the traditional Caravan and Camping Award winners, but instead showcases those that have received Platinum Pennant awards. Of the 42 sites receiving Platinum Pennants in the guide, 24 were located in the South West, with Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset coming out on top in the UK.

Here are the top 10 areas for camping in the UK according to the AA

1 Cornwall
2 Devon
3 North Yorkshire
4 Dorset
5 Somerset
6 Cumbria
7 Gwynedd
8 Norfolk
9 Dumfries & Galloway
10 Lancashire
